Study diary
My name is Mika and I have been traveling around Japan this summer learning about Japanese art and culture, and specifically about papermaking. I had the unique opportunity to learn how to make washi at my college in America and wanted to take my knowledge and skills a step further. So here I am at Kamikoya studio! I will be helping out around the studio, reading about papermaking, and learning from Rogier for about two weeks.
This last week, I have been helping Rogier in the kozo fields, cutting grass and thinning the plants so they are able to grow tall and healthy for harvest in the winter.
I also had the opportunity to assist Rogier in a brief papermaking demo for 28 people.
And, I was able to create a piece of my own using leaves and branches found around the studio!
