Art that Incorporates the Nature of Satoyama
This is a workshop where you can create Washi art by incorporating wildflowers you’ve picked yourself.
The program is open to everyone, from small children to artists.

You’ll make paper using Kozo: the Japanese paper mulberry, which is the Washi material grown in our own fields, and arrange the wildflowers you’ve picked on it. And then you’ll add patterns with natural coloring materials to create your own original Washi art piece.

The finished work can be enjoyed by displaying it in a photo frame, writing or painting on it, or using it for crafts such as lampshades.

What Makes Kamikoya’s Papermaking Experience Different!
Kamikoya’s papermaking experience differs in “Technique,” “Materials,” and “Support.”
Technique: All Handmade Traditional Method
This workshop is not just about “making” paper.
You’ll experience the basic techniques of making beautiful paper using only human hands and the power of nature.
In particular, the “hand-pounding” and the “board-drying” are processes that many “handmade” Washi workshops use machines for.

Feel the joy of manual work through creating your piece.
Materials: High-Quality Authentic Washi
We only use Kozo grown in our own fields fro this workshop.

Because the raw materials are pre-processed using traditional methods without chemicals, the beauty of the fibers is enhanced.
So, there’s no need to worry if you think, “I don’t have artistic talent!” You can make beautiful paper just by working carefully.
The slime, materials essential for Washi paper making and colors are also completely free of chemicals.

Natural materials have expressive power in themselves. By adding just a little bit of your sensibility, you can create an original work.
Support: Over 30 Years of Guidance Experience
Even so, it may be difficult for people who have forgotten how to draw or create things to suddenly express themselves.
Please don’t worry.
The program is packed with Kamikoya’s know-how, which has supported the creation of works by over 3,000 people over the past 30 years.

When your hands stop, our experienced staff will give you some hints or, in some cases, help you support your artwork.
Imagin this,
in front of you is a pure white Washi paper that you just made yourself.
It’s up to you what kind of flowers to put on it and what kind of patterns to add. Create your artwork as you wish, as your hands move.
The Value of Handmade Washi Paper Experienced Throughout the Village
Kamikoya’s papermaking experience is that the time spent in the village where the studio is located is itself an “experience.”
We believe that good Washi paper is born in a place where people and nature mix, not in the city or in the great natures.

Fields, water, wind, sun. We hope that by the time you arrive at the workshop, feel the village, and finish making Washi paper, your feelings will have changed just a little.
Comments from guests
The papermaking was more than I expected, and I was drawn to its charm along with the history of Tosa Washi♪ I would definitely like to see the scenery of the Satoyama in spring next time!!
